Dance Shoes and The Center Of All

Jakob finally got his black dance shoes yesterday. He thought they were pretty neat. The dance teacher started teaching the kid's their dance for the recital yesterday too. The song is titled "Thank Heaven's For Little Girls." Jakob is front and center on the stage and all of the girls are dancing around him. He pretty much will have to learn a completely different dance.

I felt bad for the teacher because she had to try to teach the girls their part and have her young assistant try to teach Jakob his part. It was only the first day of learning the part. But I'm nervous that she's taken on a lot having Jakob do something different. Although, if she can pull it off, it will be cute.

Leif is thinking about going to dance with Jakob and learning his part with him so he has someone to teach him and follow. I would do it if I had to, except that I have Caleb. So, we'll see what happens. I just want everyone to have a fair chance at learning everything in a timely manner.

Jakob really enjoys to dance. He picks up on the moves quickly and retains them well. So it might all work out. He's not perfect, but VERY CUTE! When the music starts, he can't hold still. He feels the music and wants to just freestyle it! It's good to learn the self control and technique.

For those of you worried that he's not getting the masculine activities in, I will invite you into our small town world. Boys in our small town have a VERY limited array of activities. They have baseball, basketball, and football. And that isn't possible until you are kindergarten age. And then it is only available in the warm months. So, for now he does "boy stuff" at home with us. We feel that dancing is a talent and a skill, not a boy or girl thing. When he is old enough, I can see Jakob in baseball, basketball, and he would probably really enjoy track or soccer if it was available. We'll see where our life leads us at that time in his life.
